15-0, 15-0, and 20-1... When will it end?
A fourth consecutive loss for the Great Yarmouthians, are there questions to be asked for CritSkull?
It's been a long and disruptive season for the Great Yarmouth outfit. What formally used to be Thanet United, with a rejuvenating rebrand involving a fresh coat of paint to inspire a new managerial setup including promising signings, has in fact led to a team with one of the poorest forms in ECL history. But what really went wrong?
The Dutch duo of tigo2050 and damianw2050 took on the reigns of the Thanet United team midway through Season 3 as a result of previous owner mismanagement. They brought players in from their respective leagues and built a relatively solid team that was able to clinch Regional Division safety.
Fast-forward to Season 4, the managerial duo, alongside external support from their Sporting Director, made some amazing business with players leaving and joining the team. Key signings included the likes of YunoMarkus, magico667, Hokuea, and a senior signing in the form of Neamelander.
However, activity became a glaring issue for the management soon after the team started getting into second gear with a few points in the table. A lack of activity led to a run of consecutive losses and an eventual search for an active manager willing to take on the managerial position. After some searching and approval from the ECL League Management, a new and promising manager arrived.
CritSkull, who is an experienced manager from ROFA, took on the position and has since worked tirelessly to restore the activity of the players with some of his own signings. However, a few high-profile players such as YunoMarkus and damianw2050 decided to continue their careers elsewhere with transfers away from Achilles GY 1897. The effect of these transfers on the team became obvious based on the recent scorelines: limited attacking output, with a lack of experience in the midfield position.
The team is now more than likely to face relegation to the Local Division, but this may be to the benefit of the club. With fresh faces entering the changing rooms each week, CritSkull will be looking to build a new and motivated team throughout the off-season, and will use the International Series to potentially scout out future signings that will help bolster the squad.
